Four Issues I’m Running On

Housing

I believe that every Akronite deserves quality housing. We should balance maintaining and improving our exsiting housing stock, while also fostering responsible new housing development. We must support value for homeowners, while affording enhanced protections for renters. Existing housing codes need to be strengthened, and expansions by corporate landlords deserve scrutiny.

Neighborhoods

Akron’s 24 individual neighborhoods are the core of our city, the sum of which form our unique civic identity. We should embrace and build upon neighborhood heritage and character. Neighborhoods should be anchored by parks and connected by vibrant public spaces. The city is made better when each of its individual neighborhoods are cohesive and healthy.

Public Safety

Our safety forces — police, fire, and EMS — face increasingly difficult jobs. I believe that they should be afforded the resources and the support they need to protect and serve. At the same time, they can only succeed under an atmosphere of trust. Citizens deserve accountability, transparency, and responsiveness.

Economic Empowerment

We must balance the demands of the globalized information economy with the need to maintain a local economic order that uplifts people in our community. City government should enable and empower local ownership of businesses and institutions wherever possible. City Hall’s unique ability to drive large-scale transformation should be embraced, and expanded public ownership of utilities and essential services should be explored.
